Michaelis School - Schule

Who are we?

Picture
The Michaelis Schule is a co-educational Christian private school, offering German and English mother tongue tuition from Grade RR to Grade 7. Michaelis is a small school creating a climate conducive to learning and to the holistic development of the individual. Children are not only encouraged to excel in their academic pursuits, but are also required to take part in religious, art, music and sports classes, thus creating a balanced learning environment.

Since its inception in 1964, and indeed since opening its doors to English speaking pupils in 2006, the Michaelis School has played a vital role in the community of Vryheid and neighbouring towns. We have a dedicated staff of highly qualified and dynamic teachers and a supportive parent body who play an integral part in the running of the school. We are privileged to have beautiful school buildings in a very secure environment. We endeavour at all times to provide a Christian school environment and to promote and foster the German language within the South African context.

Michaelis takes part in Mini Hockey & Boys Hockey Tournament at St Dominics

Last Tuesday saw the excited mini hockey girls take part in their second tournament of the season.  This time we were off to Newcastle where St Dominics hosted a very well organised tournament.  Each age group played 3 matches with a total of 9 matches played in all.  Some of the schools we played against were:  Drakensberg Primary, Ulzen Primary, Egerton Primary, Monument Primary and Utrecht Primary.  Out of the 9 matches played only one was lost!  Some matches were won and some were drawn, but the little girls played like super stars again and we are all very proud of their efforts!  We would also like to thank St Dominics for hosting this fun filled afternoon.

The U8 & U9 boys  played at the junior boys hockey tournament hosted by St Doms in Newcastle. The U9, in their first match for the season, lost 0-3 against Egerton but recovered to draw 1-1 against St Doms in their second mach. The third mach was against a strong Uelzen side and although our boys came close to scoring many times, they beat us 1-0.   The U8 side played four matches, of which they won three and drew one. The scores were 2-1 vs Drakies, 1-0 vs St Doms, 0-0 vs Uelsen and 1-0 vs Egerton. These boys showed us that there is a lot of talent coming up the ranks.

The Michaelis U11 and U13 boy Hockey teams travelled to Newcastle on the 7th May to participate in a tournament. The U13 played against Drakensberg, St Dominic’s and Newcastle Senior Primary. They were all we contested games but unfortunately they lost all three 0-1. The U11 boys only played two matches, one against St Dominic’s which was a draw 0-0 and the other against Newcastle Senior Primary while they lost 0-2. Thank you to St Dominic’s for organising the tournament and well done to all the boys. You all played well.
